We have provided this form to help you in the event you are involved in an accident and the insurance company determines your vehicle to be an economic total loss. You can use this form to determine the value of your vehicle before the damage occurred. Based on the laws of the states of Ohio and Michigan an insurance company must pay you the ACV or actual cash value of your vehicle this is also written in your policy. An insurance company may use a number of different sources to determine what they feel your vehicle is worth, but the law states they must calculate the value based on actual vehicles found in the market place within a reasonable distance from your home. You can read the laws governing insurance practices in other pages of our website. Ohio revised code 3901-1 54 paragraph H(7) deals with settlement of a total loss. Note when calculating the value for total loss purposes it is extremely important to evaluate all vehicle options, mileage and condition, all of these items have a bearing on determining the value of your vehicle. After all, you are just looking for a fair and reasonable settlement!
An insurance company will utilize a number of different companies, CCC Valuescope, ADP Autosource or Mitchell’s valuation report to help determine the value. All of these evaluation services depend on a physical inspection of your vehicle, so make sure, you request that evaluation report including all pages pertaining to the condition of your vehicle. An insurance company is required by law to share this information with you, if you request it. Keep in mind towing, storage and rental expense do not affect the value of your vehicle.
When settling your total loss claim be sure to negotiate the value of the vehicle before settling on taxes and title or document fees as these are automatically owed to you! Don’t let the tax of title fees hide the true value of you’re vehicle! Use the form below to calculate the value of your vehicle.
